What happened

Jupiter launched in the fall of 2021 (archived snapshots show jup.ag live by Oct 13, 2021) as a router that quotes and splits trades across Solana's venues so users get the best execution without thinking about it. The engine kept compounding: limit orders arrived by late 2022, a Rust-rewritten v2 routing engine in March 2023, the Metis routing algorithm (a reworked Bellman-Ford pathfinder) in July 2023, and DCA in September 2023. By December 2025 it briefly held about 93.6% of Solana's aggregator-routed DEX volume (per SolanaFloor, based on Dune data) — a share that has since fluctuated as competition intensified — while routing hundreds of millions of dollars in swaps on a typical day (per DefiLlama, mid-2026).

Why Solana remembers it

It stands for infrastructure that disappears into the user experience: routes, quotes, swaps, and liquidity access that just work. Jupiter's whole product is a moving target — the best split shifts with every block — which is why the mechanism, not any market-share snapshot, is the story.
