One of the largest community airdrops in Solana history landed JUP in nearly a million wallets.
What happened
On January 31, 2024, Jupiter opened claims for the first round of its JUP token airdrop, distributing roughly $700M worth of tokens to nearly a million wallets that had routed swaps through its service. The chain's consensus layer stayed online through the surge, though RPC nodes struggled for the first 30–45 minutes. It was round one of four planned community distributions, with half of JUP's supply earmarked for the community.
Why Solana remembers it
The airdrop became a stress test that Solana's base layer passed, signaling the network had matured past its 2021–2022 outage era, and set a template for large, community-weighted token launches.
